A New Journey
As my first year of college ends and summer begins its time for something new.
New Beginnings
The Semester has come to an end and well im still unemployed, no internships, no retail job, nothing (not by choice). On the bright side this leaves a lot of room for learning something new and exciting. That begs the question. What do I plan to do?
C++, Graphics, Games
As you know video games have been a major part of my life from my youth until now. But at some point you begin to want a bit more, not just to play the game but to create. Now ive messed around with the various mainstream engines like Unity, Unreal, and Godot but they all have something that annoy me. Unity is slow and sluggish, Unreal is overkill and too "triple A" for a indie dev, and I simply just dont like the way Godot handles things. What does that leave me with? Making my own engine! Or I guess in other words building a game from scratch rather then a full on kitted engine. Although I might be framing this as something negative, im actually pretty exicted to start exploring this and building some cool stuff. I think it will allow me to learn how games and graphics work at low level and overall gives me more control on how I want my game to behave and work. (maybe even land me a job!). But thats pretty much the plan. Go through LearnCpp and once im comfortable there, expand to LearnOpenGL.
The Plan
- Learn C++ (1-2 months)
- Build a small projects that covers core principles (1 week)
- Learn OpenGL (2-4 months)
- Build small projects as I progress through OpenGL (2 weeks)
- Begin a larger project for publication on steam (1-2 years)
Now im not sure how relaistic the plan above is so its prone to changes throughout, but im exicted to get started and ill be documenting my progress here throughout.
Thank for reading!
